Protection of personal data
The Council is committed to respecting privacy. The protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data by the Council is based on Regulation (EC) No. 45/2001 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 18 December 2000 which determines the principles and obligations to be respected by the European institutions when they are processing personal data and on Council Decision 644/2004 of 13 September 2004 which lays down further implementing rules concerning data protection as regards the Council.
‘Personal data’ means any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person. An identifiable person is one who can be identified, directly or indirectly, in particular by reference to an identification number or to one or more factors specific to his or her identity.
In principle access to the information available on or via the website of the Council does not require any personal data to be supplied by the user. However, in order to use certain online services, for example to request a visit to the Council, or to send a question to the Public Information Service, you may be asked to supply information about yourself, such as contact details (name and first name, profession, postal address, e-mail address, telephone number or nationality) when filling in a form. The Council will collect such personal information only to the extent necessary to fulfill the precise purpose specified for each online service.
For each specific online service, the details of the data controller (the person responsible for processing the data collected about you) appears on a privacy statement published by each such service and/or on a public register of data processing operations maintained by the Data Protection Officer of the Institution.
Within the PRADO section of the website only (parts of) specimen documents are displayed that have officially been provided by the participating country (document owner) for publication in the Internet. No use is made of authentic personal data if not necessary. In order to ensure the protection of privacy and personal data, when use is made of authentic documents (as opposed to specimen), it is ensured as far as possible that no details which could identify a person are legible unless individual data items are the subject of the contribution.
To exercise your rights or to obtain any further information, you can apply directly to the responsible data controller. You may also consult the Council Data Protection Officer, in order to obtain an opinion on the processing operations either concerning you or carried out by you. If you believe your rights have been infringed as a result of the processing of your personal data, you can lodge a complaint with the European Data Protection Supervisor, the independent supervisory authority.
